Framed - Ready to hang

Original artwork by Alexandra Trovato

Prego is an intimate oil painting centred on a long table where six figures raise their glasses in a shared toast. The scene holds a moment of

gathering and celebration, where gesture and ritual sit in a suspended pause. One seat remains empty, slightly pulled out from the table. It is placed within the group but left open, held as an invitation rather than absence.

In the foreground, a man’s hands are captured mid-clap, suspended between contact and release. The gesture echoes the rhythm of the toast and the shared movement around the table, reinforcing a sense of collective attention.

The title comes from the Italian word prego, used in everyday conversation to mean “please” , “go ahead” , or “you’re welcome” . It carries both offering and response, a phrase that opens space for another to enter, speak, or belong. Within the work, it frames the table as a place where inclusion is quietly extended.
